The Kingdom of Wonder
Sunrise over Angkor Wat, the riverside cafés and royal palace of Phnom Penh, peppery Kampot and the white-sand islands off the south coast — Cambodia rewards curious travellers with history, warmth and great value. It pairs beautifully with Thailand or Vietnam in a single multi-centre trip.
Where to go

Angkor Wat, the faces of the Bayon and jungle-wrapped Ta Prohm — allow at least two full days.

The Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, riverside promenade and a fast-growing food scene.

Clear water, white sand and simple beach resorts, reached by boat from the south coast.
Riverside sunsets, pepper farms and Kep’s famous crab market.
Slow river life and the chance to spot rare Irrawaddy dolphins.
Culture and customs
Cambodians are gentle and welcoming, and modest dress and a little patience go a long way.
Dress for temples. Cover shoulders and knees. You may be refused entry to religious sites, including Angkor Wat, in skirts or shorts above the knee, and there is an official code of conduct for visitors.
Ask before photos. Ask permission before photographing people, especially monks and other religious figures, and never take photos on or near military bases.
Greet with a sampeah. Palms together with a slight bow is the traditional greeting, and returning it with a smile is always appreciated.
Keep a copy of your passport. Carrying a copy of your passport photo page is useful, though not a legal requirement.
Check your change. US dollars are widely used alongside the riel. Check notes given as change, as fake dollar bills do circulate.
Laws to know. Cambodia has a zero-tolerance approach to drugs, including cannabis. Penalties are severe, with long prison sentences, and police may test for drug use.

Do I need a visa for Cambodia with a British passport?
Yes. Tourist visas are valid for 30 days from entry. You can apply for an e-visa at least 4 days in advance through the official Royal Embassy of Cambodia website or e-visa app, or get a visa on arrival at airports and land borders with a photo and payment in US dollars. If you arrive by air at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, you must also complete the free Cambodia e-Arrival card within 7 days before arrival. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival and be undamaged and complete.
How long is the flight from the UK to Cambodia?
There are no nonstop flights from the UK. Most travellers connect in Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Abu Dhabi, with a total journey of about 15 to 17 hours. Siem Reap and Phnom Penh both have good regional connections.
When is the best time to visit Cambodia?
November to February is dry, sunny and coolest, and the most popular time to visit. March to May stays dry but is very hot, with April the hottest month. June to October is the green season, with afternoon rain, lush rice paddies and fewer visitors.
Are there any areas the UK government advises against?
The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to within 20km of the land border with Thailand, where land crossings are suspended and there is unexploded ordnance. The main visitor areas — Siem Reap and Angkor, Phnom Penh and the south coast — are outside this zone. Always check the latest GOV.UK travel advice and make sure your insurance covers your plans.
Can Travel Style book my whole Cambodia trip?
Yes. We’re IATA accredited, so we issue flights ourselves and can add hotels, internal flights, transfers and guided tours of Angkor in one booking — with one team to message before, during and after your trip.
