Hello in Arabic

Desert dunes, mountain forts and turquoise wadis.

About Oman

Arabia at its most authentic

Explore Muscat's grand mosque and souq, swim in emerald wadis, cross the golden Wahiba Sands and climb to the mountain forts around Nizwa. Oman is peaceful, unhurried and beautifully unspoilt, and we plan it all: flights, hotels, desert camps, drivers and guides, with one team you can message.

Culture and customs

Omanis are gracious and courteous hosts, and modesty and good manners are valued highly.

Dress modestly. Cover the tops of your arms and your legs to below the knee in public, including in malls. Swimwear is only for tourist beaches and pools.

Alcohol. Visitors can drink in licensed hotels, restaurants and clubs from age 21. Drinking or being drunk in public is illegal.

Mind your manners. Swearing and rude gestures are illegal, including while driving, and public displays of affection are frowned upon.

Photography. Ask before photographing people, and avoid government buildings, military sites and airports. Drones need a licence.

Carry ID. Carry a copy of your passport photo page and keep the original somewhere safe.

Drugs. Penalties are severe, even for residual amounts, and the law makes no distinction between soft and hard drugs.

Questions people ask

Travelling to Oman — quick answers

Can’t see your question? Send us a message or WhatsApp us.

Do I need a visa for Oman with a British passport?

Not for a short visit. British passport holders can visit Oman for up to 14 days without a visa. For longer stays, apply online for an e-visa (the unsponsored visit visa for tourists) before you travel. At the border you must show a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and proof of travel health insurance, and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival.

Is it safe to travel to Oman?

GOV.UK does not advise against travel to any part of Oman, but it warns of regional tensions, including strikes and retaliatory attacks by Iran across the region, including in Oman, and of possible flight cancellations and airspace closures. Check the latest GOV.UK travel advice before you book and again before you go.

How long is the flight from the UK to Oman?

Oman Air flies nonstop from London Heathrow to Muscat in about 7 hours. Salalah is usually reached via Muscat or another Gulf hub.

When is the best time to visit Oman?

October to April is warm and sunny and the best time for Muscat, the mountains and the desert. Summer is very hot in the north, while Salalah turns green during the khareef monsoon season in summer.

Can Travel Style book my whole Oman trip?

Yes. We're IATA accredited, so we issue flights ourselves and can add hotels, desert camps, drivers, guides and transfers in one booking — with one team to message before, during and after your trip.
