Two continents, one great holiday
Istanbul’s mosques and bazaars, the Turquoise Coast’s coves and gulets, Cappadocia’s fairy chimneys at sunrise and excellent-value all-inclusive resorts — Turkey is hugely popular with good reason.
Where to go

Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar and a Bosphorus cruise.

Hot-air balloons at dawn over valleys of fairy chimneys and cave hotels.

Ölüdeniz, Fethiye and Kaş — blue lagoons and boat trips.
Stylish marinas, beach clubs and ancient sites.
All-inclusive resorts, golf and the old harbour.
Culture and customs
Turkish hospitality is legendary — expect tea to be offered wherever you go.
Mosques. Dress modestly — cover shoulders and knees — and follow requests at the door, such as covering your hair or removing shoes. Visit outside prayer times.
Respect the flag and Atatürk. Insulting the Turkish nation, the flag, the President or Atatürk is a criminal offence, including in online posts.
Carry ID. It is illegal not to carry photo ID — keep your passport with you.
Photography. Don’t photograph military or official sites, and ask before photographing people.
Antiquities. Buying or exporting antiquities is illegal, so keep receipts for any older-looking souvenirs.
Ramadan. Avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public during daylight hours in Ramadan.
